Arizona-based Binary Bicycles’ latest model was born from a collaboration with Steve from Hardtail Party. Together, they set out to design a modern, aggressive titanium hardtail, claiming that there’s nothing quite like it currently available. The Maniak is long, low, and slack, and has short chainstays. It’s designed around a 120mm fork but can handle up to a 150mm and has clearance for 29 x 3.0″ tires. It comes equipped with sliding Paragon-style dropouts for an adjustable chainstay length, which allows it to be set up as single-speed or geared.
The titanium frame is hand brushed with sandblasted logos, uses boost hub spacing, and has fully external cable routing (except for the dropper post). It features multiple bottle mounts, three-pack mounts under the downtube, and rack mounts on the seatstays.
As for geometry, the Maniak is meant to be a do-it-all hardtail but has a somewhat aggressive-leaning 65° head tube angle, 77 to 76° seat tube angle, long reach, long wheelbase, and short 425mm (size large) chainstays. The stack height is quite tall, which should translate to a somewhat upright riding position, and Binary used scaled geometry where the rear center and front center grow together across sizes.
“I’ve always wanted a modern hardtail that I could take on any trail and have fun. So, that’s what Binary Bicycles has built for me. But, this bike isn’t for everyone. The Maniak is designed around my belief that aggressive hardtails perform best with a 120mm fork. However, it will accommodate up to a 150mm fork for those who wish to experiment,” said Steve from Hardtail Party, adding, “It’s meant to be a fast trail bike that maximizes modern geometry and modern riding technique for all-day epic rides, flow trails, or picking your way through the most technical trails on the planet. You can set it up as a super slack lightweight XC racer or an aggressive short-travel enduro race bike. The Maniak is the bike I’ve always wanted if I could only have one bike, whether it’s a multi-day bikepacking ride on the Colorado Trail or a day on the steepest, most technical double black diamond trails in Squamish.”
