It’s hard to believe, but the Good Night campout tradition is now in its fifth year! We launched this “event” at the end of 2020 to bring people together in spirit during a strange time. The inaugural Good Night 2020 united the bikepacking world at the end of a year marked by separation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite its challenging beginnings, its success over the years has inspired us to continue the tradition. As the year draws to a close, it’s once again the perfect opportunity to gather under the same stars for one final overnight adventure before ringing in the new year. We hope you all can join us!
This self-supported challenge is designed to be accessible and encourages participants to spend a night outdoors during the busy week leading up to New Year’s Day. It’s all about celebrating the shared spirit of adventure, connecting with nature, and saying goodbye to the year gone by—for good or bad. For 2024, the event kicks off earlier than ever, giving participants more time to join in the fun. Find out how to participate and explore the prizes available below.
Rules
Rule #1
Camp out with your bike between December 21st and 31st.
No restrictions apply. Unlike the following years, we’ve opened up the event a little early, from Saturday, December 21st, until the 31st (make it a New Year’s celebration, if you’d like!). We also welcome you to camp in your backyard, your porch, or wherever possible. Just make sure to follow rule number three below.
Rule #2
Keep it small and self-sufficient.
To keep impacts to a minimum, you may want to go solo or camp out in a small group. Carry everything you need, and keep it local. It’s all about maintaining our connection to the outdoors and reflecting on what comes next. Another idea is to meet a friend or friends from a nearby community at a rendezvous campsite.
Rule #3
Have a good night outside, and do it up!
Enjoy your night, preferably outdoors, but we understand if that’s not an option. Eat some good camp grub. Drink something tasty. Wear funny hats. Bring twinkly lights. Stare at a fire. Gaze at the stars. Reflect on the changes you made in 2024 and the lessons you’ve learned. Toast something or someone. Leave No Trace. And so long, 2024!
Prizes
As a bonus, we’re giving away six great prize packs from our friends at Revelate Designs, Teravail, and Wolf Tooth Components. Six participants will win one of these prizes:
