The Surly Bridge Club is a capable, no-nonsense ATB built to handle dirt tours, grocery runs, and anything else riders can dream up. Surly just announced a slightly updated 27.5-inch-wheeled version that still costs just $1,499 complete. Check it out here…
In terms of offering a truly versatile and affordable platform for folks interested in mixed-terrain adventures, the Surly Bridge Club has been a resounding success since its introduction in 2018 (find our original review here). The offbeat Minnesota brand has made a number subtle updates and refinements to it in the years since, all the while keeping complete builds at an approachable $1,499. We’ve seen folks pedal theirs across town and around the world, defying industry pressures to have the latest, greatest, and highest-end everything.
The Bridge Club is an unfancy platform with a proven track record for reliability, and we’re glad to see it stick around in their line-up year after year, especially amid the crushing news that they discontinued the Cross-Check. “On-road? Off-road? Who gives a shit?” Surly wrote in the original blog post announcing the platform, and that still concisely sums up its ethos and why we love it. It’s a heavy bike with burly tires, quick release axles, and durable components. Spin the pedals. It’ll get you there.
The latest Bridge Club color is “Trevor’s Closet Black,” no doubt a nod to our friend Trevor, a longtime Surly employee who is no longer with the brand. It’s still available in five sizes to fit a wide range of riders. It’ll clear 27.5 x 2.8″ tires in the front and rear, now has three-pack mounts on the sides of the fork (rather than the original backward-angled mounts), and completes come built up with a 1 x 11 Shimano Cues drivetrain, WTB ST i30 rims, and more.
