In this video, Mikkel Soya Bølstad reflects on the adage that the best camera is the one you have with you, but he argues that it’s often more about the lens—especially when it comes to shooting handheld bikepacking videos on the go. While waiting at the Larvik Ferry port in Norway with his partner Becky, he realized his Fujifilm X-T3 was equipped with the wrong lens for the task ahead. Over the next four days, he relied on his iPhone XR to capture video as they pedaled their loaded Surly bikes through Denmark’s wild west coast in Jutland. The resulting video is impressive, to say the least. For still photography, he mixed in shots with his Fujifilm XE4 and X-T3, creating a dynamic blend of footage and images from the journey.
“We weren’t just [leaving with] our leftover food, but a whole load of memories to look back on… and the realization that the best camera is the one you have with you.”
