Rigs of the 2024 Arizona Trail Race
The annual Arizona Trail Race kicks off this morning, with riders setting off on either a 300 or 800-mile route across the Grand Canyon State. With help from this year’s participants, we collected rig and gear details for many of the folks lining up for the grand depart. Dig into them all here…
PUBLISHED Oct 17, 2024
The Arizona Trail Race is an unofficial challenge that takes place every year on the Arizona Trail and spans the entire state. There are two distance options: the Arizona Trail 300 is a 300-mile event that has been held every April since 2006, and the Arizona Trail 800 is the complete traverse from Mexico to Utah, which was offered for the first time in 2010 as the AZTR750. Both events are run concurrently, and for 2024, they start at the same location and same time on the Arizona/Mexico border. If the riding wasn’t challenging enough, the AZT800 riders must carry their bikes 21 miles across the Grand Canyon, as bikes are not allowed on those trails.
Some folks were already out taking on the Arizona Trail earlier this year, including Austin Killips, who set a new overall and women’s record for the AZT800 route, finishing in 8 days, 23 hours, and 27 minutes. Alex Schultz currently holds the men’s AZT800 record with a time of 9 days, 5 hours, and 43 minutes. With the help of event organizer John Schilling and the riders, we gathered a list of over 40 rigs, each accompanied by the name, age, and hometown of the rider, plus a brief kit list. Check them all out below, then head over to the event tracker to follow along live and find the updates we’ll be posting during the event.

I’ve also added a Rockbros handlebar extender (Replaced the 11″ carbon bar with a 16″ piece of 22.2mm Ti from a local fabricator, Sanitas Cycles) and some cheap bar ends which helps support the bar bag, mount the lights, and give me more hand positions.
