The Mule Trail is a bikepacking, adventure race in which participants complete a grueling, self-supported course that crosses Costa Rica from the southern border with Panama to the northern border with Nicaragua. The terrain includes gravel and primitive dirt trails, river crossings, beach, jungle and plenty of climbing. The experience of crossing this small and rugged Central American country is truly unique. The course has been pieced together using old maps, cow trails and historical research. Each participant must use a GPS device to follow the designated course and a SPOT or Garmin InReach device to track their progress.
