Chris Wilson and Rob Parker have tackled all kinds of bikepacking adventures across the western United States over the last few years. However, this was their first time bikerafting. To make it interesting, the duo decided to take on a stretch of Oregon’s Lower Deschutes River that features class III rapids. Watch the video Chris made documenting the trip, then scroll down to find more info about the route they followed.

“First time bikerafting… and I think we pushed the grade for our skills and our boats.”

The Route

On day one, Chris and Rob rode past the downed trestles along the Deschutes River Trail and camped at Macks Canyon. The second day brought them to Beavertail Campground, where they’d launch their Alpacka Caribou packrafts and float about 16-18 miles miles of the Lower Deschutes River, occasionally encountering class I and class II rapids. Day three included an additional 14 river miles where they encountered a few class III rapids. Here’s the route.
